here talking on a CB radio is my grandfather. Some people say
the radio thing runs in the blood. Who knows if this is true or
not but my genetic link to the radio past seems to be my grandfather
and name sake... "Papaw" Ulis. This photo was taken
at his resturant and Shell gas station at the top of Pound Mountain,
Virginia which is located in southwestern part of the state on
the border with Jenkins, KY. I suspect this photo was taken somewhere
around 1960-1961 while CB radio was in it's infancy and during
the peak of the solar cycle as barely visiable on the top left
of the photo are a few QSLs he collected. I never did get a chance
to share the radio passion with the old man. He died in 1973 while
I was 9 and the radio bug did not bite me for another 3 or 4 years.
